FSA Reimbursement - You contribute $5,000 to a Dependent Care FSA. Every claim needs itemized receipts showing caregiver name, child's name, dates, hours, and amount. Generic notes get denied.

Tax Credit Claims - You're claiming the credit for $3,000 in childcare expenses. The IRS wants the caregiver's name, address, and taxpayer ID (or SSN), plus documentation of all payments. Receipts provide this proof.

Employer Reimbursement - Your company offers childcare assistance. They require receipts showing you paid for legitimate childcare during work hours. Without them, you don't get reimbursed.

Household Employee Taxes - You pay a regular babysitter $3,000/year. If they're considered a household employee, you need payment records for Schedule H. Receipts document the relationship and amounts.

What to Include

Caregiver's full name and contact information, specific dates and times (start and end), number of children and their names, hourly rate and total hours, any special services (meals, transportation, homework help), late-night or weekend premium rates if applicable, and payment method. If rates vary, note why-weekend premium, multiple children, overnight care.
